What are Accelerated Online Programs?

Accelerated online programs (AOP) are 100% online and asynchronous, condensing traditional courses into 8-week sessions. They let students progress faster without sacrificing rigor, using innovative tools to engage deeply with material. This flexible format enhances accessibility and supports balancing academics with work and personal commitments, helping students complete degrees efficiently and prepare for career success.

Is the AOP pathway right for you?

In addition to traditional transfer arrangements, transfer students from Austin Community College also have two special pathways to Texas State: Bats to Cats (B2C), or Accelerated Online Programs (AOP). Here's how to tell if one of these pathway may be right for you.

Accelerated Online Programs (AOP)

  • Flexible Schedule – 100% online and asynchronous, so you can learn anytime, anywhere.
  • Faster Progress – Complete courses in 8 weeks, so in many cases you can start sooner and graduate earlier.
  • More Affordable – Fees for on-campus services are waived, saving you money every semester.
  • Balance Commitments – Fit your studies around work, family, and personal responsibilities.
  • Quality Education – Earn the same rigorous degree as traditional programs.

Students who choose the AOP pathway:

  • May choose from undergraduate AOP majors.
  • May not take courses on campus.
  • May qualify for the AOP Transfer Award, subject to continued eligibility. AOP majors are ineligible for additional University-funded scholarships. External scholarships are still accepted.
  • Must pay for classes (or have a confirmed financial aid package) before the start of each 8-week session.
  • May apply up to one year in advance.

Bats to Cats (B2C)

  • Traditional Courses – Classes are on-campus and 16-weeks long, providing the traditional college experience.
  • Format Flexibility – Enroll in a mix of on-campus and 16-week online courses.
  • On-Campus Amenities - After transferring, enjoy on-campus facilities and services.
  • Student Life – Grow socially through student events, excursions, and engagement opportunities.
  • Well-Rounded Experience – On-campus life enables a multi-faceted and formative college experience.

Students who choose the B2C pathway:

  • May choose from select majors offered on campus in San Marcos or Round Rock.
  • May register for classes located only on their designated campus.
  • May not take accelerated (8-week) online classes, but may take traditional (16-week) online classes alongside their on-campus classes.
  • May apply up to three years in advance.

AOP Transfer Award

Texas State will award $1,000 to each eligible student upon their initial enrollment and acceptance. Each award will be valid for one academic year and may be renewed for one additional academic year, subject to continued eligibility.

To be eligible for the award, students must:

  • Be first-time transfer students from Austin Community College;
  • Enroll in an accelerated online program; and
  • Meet the University’s transfer admission criteria.

The University’s Financial Aid Office will apply the award amount in equal disbursements across the Fall and Spring semesters.
